چکیده

It is well established that carbohydrate utilization is impaired in the fasted animal (1, 2). It has also been recently demonstrated that surviving liver slices prepared from fasted rats are incapable of converting C14-labeled glucose to CO2 and fatty acids to the same extent as are slices from livers of non-fasted rats (3). In an attempt to localize the level at which glucose utilization is suppressed, we have studied here the conversion of radioactive glucose and fructose to COZ, fatty acids, and glycogen by livers of normal and fasted rats. The use of fructose as a substrate for liver slices made it possible to by-pass the first reaction in which glucose is involved. The evidence obtained indicates that the defect in glucose utilization occurs most likely at the initial phosphorylative step.

Succinic Acid Monoethyl Ester and Metformin Regulates Carbohydrate Metabolic Enzymes and Improves Glycemic Control in Streptozotocin-Nicotinamide Induced Type2 Diabetic Rats

Objective. Succnic acid mono ethyl ester (EMS) was recently proposed as an insulinotropic agent for the treatment of non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. In the present study the effect of EMS and Metformin on the activities of carbohydrate metabolic enzymes in streptozotocinnicotinamide induced type 2 diabeteic model was investigated. Methods. EMS were injected intraperitonially at doses 2...

Effect of fructose on lipogenesis from lactate and acetate in diabetic liver.

Defective glucose utilization in the liver of the glucose-fed diabetic rat has been stated to be the result of at least two blocks: one, at an early stage in glycolysis, probably hexokinase; the other, in the synthesis of fatty acids from the Z-carbon-like intermediate. This conclusion was based on the following observations: (1) the conversion of C14-glucose to CO2 was depressed in the liver o...

Zataria multiflora increases insulin sensitivity and PPARγ gene expression in high fructose fed insulin resistant rats

Objective(s):In insulin resistance, the insulin action in liver, muscles and adipocytes decreases and result in hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia and hyperinsulinemia. In this study we evaluate the effect of Zataria multiflora extract on insulin sensitivity in high fructose fed insulin resistant rats, since this extract was shown antihyperglycemic effect in streptozotocin induced diabetes in rats. ...

Troxerutin Chronic Treatment Protects against Fructose-induced Metabolic Syndrome in Male Rats

Background and Aims: Metabolic syndrome, a common metabolic disorder, for the serious health consequences such as insulin resistance and lipid abnormalities has been considered as a major clinical challenge with obscure causes. Oxidative stress is an important component of metabolic syndrome, contributing in its development. Troxerutin, a semi-synthetic derivative of natural bioflavonoid rutin,...
